OK, what’s a wristwatch doing on the Sounds True website? And what does it have to do with “accelerating your spiritual evolution”?

Here’s the story: for years, I’ve been searching for a solution to one specific problem: the obnoxiousness of my morning alarm clock. I’ve tried waking to chime alarms, light clocks, NPR, my favorite music CDs—all to no avail.

If you can relate, then you know that this “little” problem can actually have a profound effect on your entire day. Being jarred awake can leave you feeling groggy, irritable, and “on the wrong side of the bed.”

Well, what if there were a way to be awakened at the optimum moment—right when you are naturally “surfacing” from sleep and into the waking state? That’s exactly what the SleepTracker is supposed to do.

How Does It Work?

According to inventor Lee Loree, the SleepTracker monitors the many “almost awake” moments that you cycle through each night. These moments are elusive, usually lasting less than 20 seconds. During one of these waking windows, you may move around, sit up to look at the clock, then drift quickly back to sleep. You probably won’t even remember having been awake.

By monitoring your sleep cycles, the SleepTracker finds those perfect moments and gently wakes you when you’re most alert. The result? You wake up refreshed instead of groggy.

To use it, you just set the watch for the time that you want to get up. The SleepTracker will then awaken you during an “almost awake” moment within 30 minutes before that time.

Here are some other ways that we’ve found the SleepTracker useful:

• Reducing jet lag–One of its most popular and effective uses, according to customers

Sleeping in late–Minimizes weekend grogginess when “catching up” on shut-eye

Meditation retreats, bird watching, and ninja stealth missions (or any other occasion that you need to wake up REALLY early in the morning)

Improving the quality of your sleep (see story)

Product Evaluation

I’ve tested the SleepTracker for over six months now. My conclusion? In short: It works.

I know this sounds strange, but it’s changed the quality of my waking life—especially my precious morning hours. My pilgrimage from bed to teapot to meditation cushion has been far more seamless and unruffled.

I like this device so much that I am reluctant to let anyone borrow it. Our other Sounds True test subjects reported similar efficacy (and want their own).

One unadvertised benefit that I discovered is that after using the SleepTracker at the same wake up time for about nine days, I began to wake up naturally BEFORE the alarm!

The SleepTracker is not perfect. Two of our other “guinea pigs” and I found that the watch worked exactly as expected about 9 out of 10 consecutive mornings. Thankfully, when the SleepTracker doesn’t find a perfect “almost awake” moment (about 1 out of 10 times), it will always sound off at your “target time” just in case.

“I was amazed at how well it worked. For 10 out of the 14 days, I felt refreshed when it beeped me awake.” –Wired Magazine
Additional Benefits

An added bonus of the SleepTracker is its ability to track how well you are sleeping. Hence, its name.

Each morning, it tells you how long your sleep cycles lasted—longer sleep cycles mean better, more regenerative sleep.

You can use this feature to see how your coffee intake, evening meal times, sleeping environment, and meditation practices influence your sleep quality.

Sounds True Verdict

The SleepTracker watch will be welcome by those who want to awaken each morning in a gentler, more refreshing way. Discovering higher levels of spiritual awakening, however, are totally up to you. ;)

Build Quality: A   (Durable and waterproof.)
Features: B+ (See evaluation.)
Ease of Use: B+ (You’ll want to read the quick-start instructions the first time.)
Impact on Quality of Life: B+ (It’ll take more than waking up refreshed to truly awaken—but it sure helps to have a head start every morning.)
Overall: Highly recommended.

THE BOTTOM LINE is that Sounds True gives a thumbs up to the SleepTracker—and if we see enough interest from you, we will recommend it in an upcoming catalog.
