| | | Product Description | | A group of courageous Ugandan women known as BeadforLife has created an innovative way to lift their families out of poverty by producing handmade jewelry from paper beads. From the Heart of BeadforLife tells their inspiring story through 16 original compositions on CD sung in the local languages of Luo, Luganda, Swahili, and English by the 150 “beaders.”
BeadforLife members are women with HIV/AIDS and refugees from the war in Northern Uganda. In 2004, they partnered with women in the United States, and together they have created a fair trade program to raise urgently needed money for medical care, schooling, and clothing. The women in Africa send the beaded jewelry to the U.S., where it is sold at home parties and community events worldwide.
Recently, the women of BeadforLife were able to purchase 18 acres of land, and they will soon break ground to build their own housing community in Uganda.
